Local wonders...The Glamorous Owl
Here we are a week ahead of Valentines Day - yet another occasion to go out shopping for your love and exchange cards and gifts of endearment. You may remember my post last year on Valentines Day, and my cynical view on the whole thing. To be completely honest, I'm now at a stage where if I receive a card I'm happy, however the masses must still love going overboard with their grand gestures. Gone are the days where a Tatty Teddy would suffice; it's harder and harder to find that one gift that no one else has thought of.
I mentioned in last years Valentines post Upside Down Presents, which is still going strong, and is still a great little card and gift shop for all things local to the North East. For something a little, well, more - The Glamorous Owl is the perfect shout for gifts made by local producers. There is a whole Aladdin's cave of gifts; from bargain buys to individual pieces of art. You could quite easily spend a good afternoon mooning over the products - which I have been known to do.
Although in the centre of Newcastle city centre (Cloth Market, NE1 1EZ), the shop is tucked away like a hidden gem which gives it all the more character. It's also not a shop you can enter without buying anything - I wish I could buy the whole shop, and there is always something for everyone. One of the stockists is one of my faves Jessica Catherine - who creates darling little pieces of ceramics (seen below). Whether you're treating your beau to a piece of art, a new chair or just a pair of earrings - see my purchases below, you're sure to find something truly unique.
