Traidcraft: shopping with meaning

Recently I headed over to Traidcraft, based on Team Valley for their new season launch. Although I know of Traidcraft, and bought quite a few of the products they sell - I've never truly understood their objectives or values. After spending an afternoon with them, I appreciate a that buying from Traidcraft means a LOT more than I imagined.

Their mission is 'to fight poverty through trade, practising and promoting approaches to trade that help people in developing countries to transform their lives'. Hearing about how Traidcraft started and the great work they do with families all over the world, is quite heartwarming. Starting right here in the North East, it's been making huge differences and changes since 1980. The retail shop sells everything from luxury gifts to toilet roll - purchases that can help their sourced supplies support their families and communities.

Here is a sneak peek of some of the new products you can expect to see on the shelves soon, and also some snaps from the shop...

I always struggle to find somewhere to buy individual, handcrafted gifts for Christmas, whereas one afternoon in this shop and I've come out with a list as long as my arm. Not that I'm thinking about Christmas shopping already (wasn't it just Easter??) as focussing all of my energy on sunny days means my mind is far from it.

I'm giving away the Bake a Difference cook book, and a pack of Jolly Felt Star Decorations. These darling little stars are made in Nepal by Get Paper Industries. GPI are artisans creating gorgeous products that sell through Traidcraft, with sales supporting their own community initiatives such as building a local school. Knowing that all of the products have such heartwarming stories behind them makes it all the more worthwhile shopping with Traidcraft. To find out more on GPI, follow the link here.

Head on over to the High Tea and Heels facebook page for more info on how to win.

To find out more about Traidcraft and the great work they are doing, head on over to their website, or give them a follow on twitter. Happy shopping!
